The Nicholas C. Petris Center on Health Care Markets & Consumer Welfare is named after former California State Senator Nicholas Petris, noted for his leadership in developing policies addressing California's health care issues. The Center, located in downtown Berkeley, focuses on general health research, consumer protection, affordability and access to health care — especially by low– and moderate–income consumers — and the role of information in consumer choice. It also assesses concentration, regulation and competition in the health care markets.
