About the Project

The Petris Center at UC Berkeley will study private equity (PE) investment in healthcare and will perform the following three tasks:

  1. Write a 20- to 30-page paper documenting our findings and analysis of PE investment in healthcare, to be jointly published by the Petris Center and the American Antitrust Institute, with the Petris Center being the lead organization writing the paper. The paper is due February 28, 2023.
  2. Participate in a roundtable event featuring key lawmakers, enforcers, academics, and PE industry participants, to discuss and publicize the results of the study and to mobilize efforts to implement our policy recommendations. The Petris Center will also translate the findings of the paper (see #1 above) to make them accessible to these key stakeholders. The American Antitrust Institute will be the lead organization organizing the event. This event will take place in March 2023.
  3. Contribute content (i.e., a 2- to 3-page summary of the paper) for a podcast episode discussing the paper and its findings (see #1 above) on the American Antitrust Institute’s highly-regarded Ruled by Reason podcast. The contribution is due April 15, 2023. The American Antitrust Institute will be the lead organization creating the Podcast, which will be recorded by May 31, 2023.
